Wilmington grilled cheese restaurant to add a new location

Only two years after leaving their truck business behind, the owners of CheeseSmith have announced that they’re opening a second location at 1319 Military Cutoff Road in the .

This second storefront has been in the works for a while, said , who owns the business with husband , but the details are finally in place. They hope to open in August or September.

“While we love the Cargo District area, it isn’t an area a lot of people in Wilmington can make it to as often as they’d like,” she said. “CheeseSmith number two will be very similar to our current location. We’re excited about endless parking spots, its proximity to , and covered outdoor patio seating.”

They opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 624 S 17th Street in July 2021. The second location will near the Terrazzo Trattoria Italian restaurant. It was home to the former Rise Biscuits Donuts and was briefly under consideration as the new space for Nakedfin Poke Bowl.

Last year, the Curnyns also announced that they were planning to open Molly’s soft serve ice cream spot next to their Cargo District location.

“Right now, Molly’s Soft Serve is on hold,” she said. “We’re most likely going to push opening until next summer.”

While they’re still committed to the ice cream business, this opportunity was one they couldn’t pass up, she said.

“We’re hoping to continue to grow CheeseSmith to many locations. We want to share our with as many people as possible.”
