The Cheese in the Trap Webtoon Would Make an Excellent Josei Series
There are many comics on WEBTOON that fit manga demographics and feel more like a traditional manga or anime series. For example, there are many romance webtoons centered around high school students and have similar art styles to popular shojo stories like Blue Spring Ride.
The same goes for manhwa. Cheese in the Trap, for example, is a manhwa comic series that tells the story of Seol Hong, a third-year college student in Korea. On the surface, Seol may seem like any other average college student and, for the most part, is — until her life gets tangled with Jung Yoo. Cheese in the Trap Focuses on Realistic Relationships
Since the josei demographic mainly caters to adult women, Cheese in the Trap fits the bill almost perfectly since it follows the life of a college student. But, this isn’t the only reason Cheese in the Trap would make a great josei. Many josei series focus on realism and less idealized portrayals of romance told by air-headed heroines — the romantic relationships are more realistic and have less far-fetched ups and downs as they progress. The cast of characters is made up of a wide age range and the story also flip-flops between present time and flashbacks to tell the story. While this isn’t unique to josei, it makes Cheese in the Trap more understandable.
Setting the bar for realistic and intense relationships is something Cheese in the Trap does really well — though some characters’ motivations may seem strange or bizarre at first. Likewise, some characters’ personalities are obvious from the start and rarely change throughout the series.
