Unforgotten’s new Irish actress Sinead Keenan bonded with her co-star Sanjeev Bhaskar over a mutual appreciation of cheese, with the English actor describing her as a “cheeseaholic”.
The Dublin actress (45) is joining the fifth series as Jessica ‘Jessie’ James, the new detective chief inspector after Nicola Walker’s character Cassie Stuart was killed off at the end of the last season.
Co-star Bhaskar, who plays detective inspector Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan in the ITV show, has described Keenan as “brilliant” and said it was their love of the popular dairy product that helped smooth her introduction into the cast.
“Sinead’s a cheeseaholic,” he joked. “Sinead was in exactly the same position as her character Jess, that status coming into this kind of group of people that knew each other and got on really well, from which there was now a beloved member who was not going to be part of (it). That’s a horrible thing to come into.”
For her part, Keenan has described working with Bhaskar as “a dream”, but described her nervousness at taking on the role so much that she initially refused to read the script for the character.
“What I was mainly nervous about was following Nicola Walker, because who wants to do that?” the Irish actress said.
