This local organic creamery does a mean Christmas Cheese Box (and postage is free in Cork)

No Christmas feast is complete without a selection of fancy cheeses to nibble on the sofa during a festive movie marathon and if you’re about to make your selection for ’22, make sure you check out your local makers first.

At West Cork’s artisan Lost Valley Dairy and Creamery, owners Mike and Darcie have put together a selection of delicious boxes and they’ll even deliver your pick to your doorstep in Cork completely free of charge.

The couple, who live on their “extremely small farm” outside Inchigeelagh with their young son Ned, hand milk five cows: Tilda, Kate, Daisy, Frida, and Clementine.

The farm is spray free and they don’t use chemical fertilisers. Nothing goes to waste either; their heritage breed pigs are reared on the leftover whey from the cheesemaking.

At €25, the Mini Christmas Box contains a 300g piece of Carraignamuc, and a 300g piece of Sobhriste, with postage included anywhere in Cork – ideal for a stocking filler or a secret Santa gift.

There’s also a Crumbly Box (€40) containing a half wheel of the Sobhriste and a jar of their own Lost Valley Honey, and a Christmas Box Deluxe, featuring the honey, a half wheel of Carraignamuc and a half wheel of Sobhriste for €75.

It’s a cheddarhead’s dream.

All the Christmas Boxes can be tailored to suit your needs, so just email thelostvalleydairy@gmail.com to let them know your preferences.

The boxes will be sent out Monday, December 19th, arriving just in time for cheeseboard season.
