Plymouth Cheese Counter and Dairy Heritage Center Ownership Returned to Hub City

The Counter and Dairy Heritage Center building in Plymouth has been returned to the ownership of the City of Plymouth, following a six-year partnership and redevelopment program with the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation.

Occupying a restored 1875 building in downtown Plymouth, the combination of a dairy museum and sandwich counter began as an abandoned building that was transferred to the in 2016 to qualify for historic tax credits and other incentives that helped finance the redevelopment of the building.  The operated the building and directed its restoration, which was done thanks to State of Wisconsin historical tax credits obtained by the SCEDC and in partnership with the .  The agreement to purchase the Counter and back for $1 was approved by the this past September, and the transaction was completed last month.

Lee Gentine, the of the RDA said that “This project wouldn’t have been possible without this partnership.  We look forward to other possible ventures.”

Plymouth Mayor also added that the project has proven to be a blueprint for others, having “…created a template that has been copied over and over in many communities across the nation.  Federal and State tax laws were designed for just this purpose.”
