Swissploitation’s Mad Heidi looks to bring back the borderline forgotten genre of exploitation movies with a cheerful blend of comedy, bloodshed, and . 2022 proved a fruitful year for cinema, but also one that saw audiences grow jaded with many common movie tropes and trends. Mad Heidi provides an almost awe-inspiringly surreal tale about Heidi: a woman who witnesses the death of her loved one for his dairy production in a cheese-based dystopia, and who is then sent to jail, where she makes a plan to get her revenge. As this suggests, the movie swiftly becomes a combination of the classic action movie Kill Bill and The Sound of Music, complete with a host of classic movie references, and at least one cheese waterboarding scene. However, these moments also all work to serve a greater purpose, and revive an almost dead genre – a mission helped by Mad Heidi having been played at 21 festivals around the world, including Telluride Horror Show, Vancouver Horror Show and ScreamFest LA.
