According to , there are 171 new Christmas movies coming out right now. It may be impossible to sort through all those snowy sleigh rides, town-square Christmas trees, mugs of hot chocolate and meet-cute romances, but here’s a small holiday sampler of streaming possibilities.

A Hollywood Christmas (Crave)

Overworked director (Jessika Van) specializes in Christmas movies — she’s currently shooting one about a small-town cupcake baker who meets a big-city business guy who’s come to foreclose on her little shop. Life imitates art when learns the Christmas movie division is about to be shut down by handsome new studio exec Christopher (Josh Swickard).

’s quirky assistant — of course she has a quirky assistant! — realizes they are now all basically living inside a Christmas movie, constantly pointing out tropes and urging to “trust the formula.”

Poking affectionate fun at the genre for being predictably comforting (Fake snow! Cute dogs! Ugly sweaters!), while also being comfortingly predictable, A Hollywood Christmas gets to have its festive cupcake and eat it, too.

Who should watch: Anyone playing the Christmas-movie drinking game should know the movie-within-a-movie format basically doubles the opportunities for eggnog shots.
