Costco selling massive 72-pound wheel of cheese: Here’s how much it will cost you

Costco is known for selling items in large quantities. A 72-pound wheel of cheese just seems massive, even by its standards. But that’s exactly what the warehouse retailer is offering with its Whole Wheel Parmigiano Reggiano.
Weighing a whopping 72 pounds, that cheese wheel will cost you. Costco is currently selling it online for $949.99.
The cheese wheel is aged 24 months and is imported from Italy. It describes it as being “made with the freshest milk from the famous Parma and Reggio Emilio provinces in Italy, Parmigiano Reggiano is the apex of Italian cheese making and a symbol of Italian culture and civilization.”
In addition to being eaten alone, shredded or grated Parmigiano Reggiano transforms any pasta, soup or salad into an exquisite gourmet experience, the listing says.
If you’re looking for a wine to enjoy with all that cheese, it pairs well with Montepulciano, Pinot Grigio, Chianti and Merlot, according to Costco.
The massive cheese wheel has been well received by customers, as it’s rated 4.7 stars out of 5. One customer writes that they’ve already bought four. Another called it the “king of cheeses.”
If you’re looking for a little more than just cheese, Costco also offers a 27-pound bucket of mac and cheese with 20-year shelf life. Or if you have some time to kill, you can try your hand at the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle, featuring 60,000 pieces and measuring 29 feet long.
Costco is currently eyeing a new location on the West Shore in Mechanicsburg. The timeline for a new store is unclear.
