Cheese-rolling champion goes out at the top as injuries grate

’s first experience of falling down the near-vertical hill where an annual -rolling race takes place was when he was a teenager after having a few drinks one night.

“I was thrown down there a couple of times when I was drunk,” Anderson, the record-breaking 23-time champion of the Cooper’s Hill -Rolling and Wake event, recalls. “One of our friends did get knocked unconscious, but he was all right. I don’t know if it was him hitting his head or too many beers.”
