Today, we’re going to take a look at a Cleveland institution: Melt Bar and Grilled. This long-standing local business has since expanded to a number of locations, but we’re going to learn how their original flagship location in Lakewood crafted the best grilled cheese sandwiches in Cleveland. These ooey-gooey delicacies are truly unique, piled high with tons of delicious toppings. The possibilities are truly endless at this iconic local business!
It all started on Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, way back in September of 2006.
One local Clevelander saw the simple grilled cheese sandwich as a mighty food with star potential. When paired with incredible toppings and excellent craft beer, he saw an opportunity to create a rockin’ and rollin’ restaurant like no other. And thus, Melt Bar and Grilled was born.
Their decadent sandwiches caught the attention of Greater Clevelanders, and things really took off around 2010 or so.
Piled high with toppings like pierogies, mac and cheese, BBQ, and anything else you can dream, it seems, these sandwiches became regarded as a must-try for all Clevelanders. Soon, a second location was opened, and then a third.
Today, more than 10 of these incredible restaurants can be found throughout Ohio… but it all started right in Lakewood!
Each restaurant has a similar flair with unique elements. Local memorabilia, vintage holiday decorations, art and murals, and even oddities adorn the walls to make each dining experience… well, a one-of-a-kind experience.
Sandwiches like the Wake & Bacon, Mighty Macaroni, and Parmageddon have enchanted taste buds and captured hearts… resulting in a craze that Clevelanders have immortalized in body art.
Yes, you read that right. The Melt menu has sparked a tattoo craze…..
