Reader recipe: ‘I tried John’s banana and cheese on toast and was surprised’

InYourArea readers are sending us their favourite family in droves and we just love reading them.

This week’s contribution is from 90-year-old John Howes who said he first assembled this using an unusual combination when he was just a teenager. John, from West Bromwich, in the midlands, believes that people are a bit in awe of the fruit and combination.

Now, we’re not ones to turn down a challenge like this, having never tried it before, our Insights Lead, Julia Brigui, couldn’t resist giving it a go. First here’s the super-simple , and then we’ll tell you what she thought.

Ingredients

  • 1 slice of toast
  • 1 banana
  • Butter
  • Mature

Method

Step 1

Toast the bread and butter it.

Step 2

Peel the banana and slice it.

Step 3

Layer the banana on the toast covering it all over.

Step 4

Slice or grate the and cover the banana.

Step 5

Pop it under a medium grill, let the cheese melt and brown over.
