Newark Advertiser staff take on 2023 with personal challenges throughout January including fitness, veganism and giving up alcohol

As the new year dawns the Advertiser editorial staff are embarking on a series of individual challenges — and it’s all ’s fault.

Every week we hold an editorial conference in the Advertiser newsroom to discuss stories for the following week and further ahead.

A few weeks ago the discussion turned to the editions and the sticky January period when everyone is still recovering from the festive period and, notoriously, very little happens to help fill our pages.

‘Has anyone got any feature ideas?” I asked.

The following week she made the same suggestion.

We ignored her.

The following week she was more insistent and persuasive and would not let the subject drop until we all signed up.

The result is the following challenges that everyone in the newsroom will attempt to complete throughout the month of January — wish us all luck!
