Discounted early-bird tickets are nearly sold out for the 13th timesunion.com/Table Hopping Mac-n-Cheese Bowl, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, on a blocked-off Remsen Street in Cohoes.
A few dozen regular tickets, priced at $30, remain available, as do about twice as many $50 VIP tickets. The former cover mac-n-cheese samples from up to 35 restaurants and other providers, while the latter also include beer from the 10 or more participating breweries. After early-bird tickets are sold out, the prices for each rises by $5. Children’s admission will include tickets for 10 samples. Attendees will vote online for their favorite tasting station, judges will award a prize.
Tickets may be purchased online now and will be available on the day of the event if not sold out.
A fundraiser launched in 2010 to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, the Mac-n-Cheese Bowl last year made a successful transition to an outdoor festival in Cohoes, attracting an estimated 4,000 people. It was first suggested by a reader of the Table Hopping blog on timesunion.com, which have been its title sponsors since the beginning.
A few spots remain for tasting stations, and it is possible more breweries will be accepted. Restaurants and breweries wishing to learn more about participating should email Kyleigh Cherry, coordinator of special events for the food bank, at kyleighc@regionalfoodbank.net. Cherry is also the contact for applications for the vendor stalls available to local makers of foods, beverages and other complementary products that may wish to sample and sell to the Mac-n-Cheese Bowl crowd.
